I have been trying a lot of decaffeinated coffee of late, I changed to decaffeinated tea a while ago, but had found myself drinking more and more coffee.

The best decaff coffee I have found so far is from Percol www.percol.co.uk it has less of an chemical after taste than any of the other I have so far tried, it is a medium strength and works perfectly in my filter coffee maker.

The coffee is decaffeinated using carbon dioxide, the green coffee beans are moistened and then pressurised liquid carbon dioxide is pushed through them, and this seem to work very well.

We have been unlucky of late, we employed Timothy Brigstocke of TIM HB Ltd (6 Charterhouse Close, Cheddar, Somerset. BS27 3XT) to advise us regarding the steel work required for our house, we were advised that the steel work could not span the width we required without a supporting post, while this was not what we wanted and had requested, we went along with Timothy’s advice as he was the professional (Chartered Structural Engineer).

The drawings arrived quickly and we submitted them to the local authority, the work started, but before the steel was ordered we had a long chat to Stuart (Our Builder, highly recommended) who also seem to think this was an odd solution to have the post in the middle, as he had also seen much larger lengths supported in this way.

We ask Stuart to contact Timothy and see if this was the only solution, we then find out that no this was not the only solution, but we could have a single span of steel, so we requested more drawing, expecting a small additional charge. The drawings quickly arrived and so did an invoice for almost that of the original work (which had included a site visit etc etc). You can imagine we where a little shocked at this.

It feels to us that we have been ripped off by this company, who have now found how to charge almost double the initial, we are now going through the process of cantacting the Institution of Structural Engineers, Timothy is on the Committee of the Western Counties Branch, so we don’t expect our complaint to get very far.

We have since had a letter threatening legal action if the invoice is not paid, we had hoped that Timothy would have come back to us with a reasonable
compromise regarding this, so we have paid, and will now pursue this via other means.

So our recommendation is to avoid this company, while I am sure the work is professional and of high quality, our requirements where not listened to, and the advice we were given as not what we needed, While this was not an intentional fraud, it does show a complete lack of customer service.
